MEET THE Staff
 
President & Founder Coach George Gibson
    A resident of Murfreesboro since 2005, Coach Gibson brings his experience to Above the Rim Gym. Beginning at 13 years old, Coach Gibson went on to play at the AAAA high school level as a 3-year starter and served as Varsity Captain for two years at Little Rock High School. Coach Gibson made All-State his senior year and was selected to play for the Arkansas High School All-Star teams. For his efforts, he was awarded a full basketball scholarship to play at the University of Central Arkansas (U C A). Through his four years at the collegiate level, he played for the U C A Bears in two Conference Tournaments, advanced to the NAIA National Tournament in Kansas City and was selected to compete as a College All-Star. Coach Gibson also received his Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from the University of Central Arkansas.
     A veteran of coaching youth in Ohio, Indiana, Missouri, and Tennessee through a variety of venues, Coach Gibson founded Above the Rim Gym basketball academy in 2006. In 2007, he founded the Middle Tennessee Knights as a team without a home gym, extended coaching staff, or sponsors. In 2016, Team ARG will begin its 9th season playing in various tourneys around Tennessee, Kentucky and surrounding states by providing youth athletes an opportunity to play competitive basketball. 
     As a member of the Positive Coaching Alliance, Coach Gibson has received certification in Double Goal Coaching in "Coaching For Winning Life Lessons" (2010), "Developing Triple-Impact Competitors" and "Culture Practicing and Games" (both in 2012). Coach Gibson also completed 3 additional coaching certifications: "NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching", "Tennessee State Coaching Component" and "First Aid, Health and Safety For Coaches" (all in 2013).
     Coach Gibson is married and a father of four. He continues his career in operations and remains active within his community through coaching and attends World Outreach Church. He is founder of Above the Rim Gym and also served as Assistant Head Coach at Central Magnet High School in Murfreesboro  (2013-2014) and Head Freshman Coach for Blackman High School (2015-2017).
     Above the Rim Gym is a 501c3 organization and proud member of the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce.

Coach Allison was the high school Player of the Year in 1992  NJCAA Player Of The Year in 1993, an MCC Player of the Year and a 1996 graduate of Valparaiso University and went on to play pro ball for 11 seasons throughout Europe. Coach Allison is an active member of Olive Branch Church, a husband and father of one; his goal is to see athletes grow in their understanding of the game. Coach Allison hails from Chicago, Illinois but has made his home in Murfreesboro. He has been with ARG since 2015.

Coach Andy Rice (Recruiting)
A resident of  Murfreesboro, Coach Rice attended Central Michigan and recently retired from a career in education as a teacher. He is a married father of two children. Coach Rice joined ARG in 2012.

Chaplin Clyde Gresham 
Relocating to Murfreesboro from Ohio in 1994, Clyde Gresham is a valuable consultant to the coaching staff, often lending his talents to the team. Clyde is married and is a father to four grown children. A 16-year veteran of the United States Army, 14-year associate minister at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, a 26-year member of the Nashville-based Fellowship of Christian Athletes and TSSAA-certified Referee, Coach Gresham continues his career at Alvin C. York Veterans Hospital in Murfreesboro. He joined Above the Rim Gym in 2008.
